Now They Are Here To Kill Women

In a clear example of civility, Congresswoman Louise Slaughter(D) offers her views on efforts to discontinue Federal funding for abortions.

“I went through this as co-chair of the Arts Caucus in ’94. People were elected simply to kill the National Endowment for the Arts. Now they are here to KILL WOMEN!

Planned Parenthood’s primary service is performing abortions. About 90% of its efforts are directed in that area.

As for Breast exams, cancer screenings, etc, a woman can go to her doctor or the local health department. Hang tough, Louise, we’ll survive somehow!

  1. That’s right, Planned Parenthood doesn’t do mammograms. So let’s forget the services they do provide, such as contraception, pap smears and abortions, and defund them because they don’t perform mammograms.

Or we could, and sorry if this seems like a stupid idea, ask them to work out whether they could perform such scans more efficiently than other organisations, and if so give them the money to do it. Thereby saving Tax payers’ money.

  2. My profuse apologies for any duplication of points. Some of my comments are showing on a feed but not on the site. I was relying on the site and so assumed that my telephone had swallowed the comment without posting it. Again, my apologies for the needless duplication.

  3. NASA won’t take you on a trip round the moon, the EPA won’t provide you with a personal environmental early warming system, the Defense Department will probably decline, if you ask them, to formulate personalized plans to defend your property from invasion by a foreign army.

Moving on to federally funded non-profits, there are undoubtedly many such organisations that could provide services but do not.

Congress is free to attach a rider, “to be used X% for mammograms” where X may be 100 if that is what Congress thinks is right.

That isn’t rocket science. Planned Parenthood is an organisation that has reached into many hearts and communities through its services, so if you want it to do mammograms too please just get Congress to ask them to do that with their federal funds.

    • I want states to due their own programs. It is not the job of the Federal Government to do these programs. This allows more direct control over services, fraud, and accountability.

  4. Planned Parenthood doesn’t provide mammograms! Defund them!

That is silly. NASA won’t take you on a trip around the moon, EPA won’t ensure that your home is free of carcinogens and getting back from the heady heights of these powerful government agencies, Liberty University (which received more federal funds last year than NPR) is so bad that its biology department says the earth is only a few thousand years old.

I would like to see Planned Parenthood expand and provide such services, on top of that they already do. Continuing funding will help that to happen.

But for now, in view of the appalling campaigns of intimidation and murder directed at abortion providers, I can only express my appreciation for those brave enough to keep the flag flying for women.

  5. On the question of going down to your doctor for screening, I don’t think it’s as simple as that if you’re uninsured. The services are primarily of use to the poor.

    • I beg tom differ. All you have to do is go to one of the local hospitals here and fill out and application for medical assistance if you don’t have insurance. Once it is processed then you pay as little as $1-5 $s or nothing at all It is that simple. There are also free tests and exams once a year by local hospitals for various illnesses or screenings including breast exams and diabetes.

  6. Your false claim above that 90% of Planned Parenthood’s services were abortions was also repeated by Jon Kyl. He was later forced to admit that he had not intended this to be taken as a literal statement.

In other words, he wildly exaggerated. The figure is apparently closer to 3%.
